Rangers have received a club-record transfer fee for Calvin Bassey after the Nigerian completed his move to Ajax.
The versatile defender joined Rangers from Leicester City on a free transfer two years ago and helped the Scots reach the final of the Europa League last term.
He was very impressive throughout the competition and was also a part of the team that won the Scottish Cup in 2021/22.
After two fruitful years in Glasgow, Bassey has signed a five-year contract with Dutch giants Ajax, who recently sold Lisandro Martinez to Manchester United.
The Eredivisie champions have paid €23million, however, the fee could rise to €26.5m, the club confirmed in a statement.
This amount smashes Rangers’ record sale which was previously held by Nathan Patterson, who joined Everton for a fee in the region of £12m in January.
Bassey made 65 appearances for the Gers and also has six Nigeria caps to his name.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side have already sorted out a replacement, bringing in Ben Davies from Liverpool.
Bassey operated as a left-back and central defender during his time at Ibrox, meaning Van Bronckhorst is still chasing a new left-back to compete with Borna Barisic for a starting berth.
Rangers have been linked with Besiktas’ Ridvan Yilmaz, with the player reportedly open to leaving the Turkish outfit.
It is believed that Yilmaz will cost around £4m – similar to Davies – with his Besiktas contract set to expire next summer.
Besiktas vice-president Emre Kocadag has admitted that interest in the 21-year-old is high.
“We have reached a certain stage at the transfer point related to Ridvan,” he said.
“He is a player on the radar of many teams and a lot of offers have come so far.
“If there is a transfer offer that meets our expectations and Ridvan wants it, we will consider it again.”
