Ramaswamy says he’ll give DeSantis ‘immense credit’ if he drops out before NH primary
Former GOP presidential primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said he will give Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis “immense credit” if he drops out of the GOP presidential race before the New Hampshire primary.
Ramaswamy dropped out of the primary soon after finishing fourth in the Iowa caucuses earlier this week and quickly hit the campaign trail in support of former President Trump.
“I’ll give @RonDeSantis immense credit if he does the right thing & drops out before the NH primary,” Ramaswamy posted Wednesday on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
“Most of his votes will go to Trump & we can end this primary to make sure that [Nikki Haley] & her neocon ilk never come anywhere near the White House. That’s a key reason why I exited.”
Ramaswamy announced he was dropping out of the GOP race Monday night and endorsed Trump, who had warned voters against supporting Ramaswamy ahead of the Iowa caucuses.
“As of this moment, we are going to suspend this presidential campaign,” Ramaswamy said Monday.
“As I’ve said since the beginning, there are two America First candidates in this race. And earlier tonight, I called Donald Trump to tell him that I congratulate him on his victory, and now going forward, you will have my full endorsement for the presidency,” Ramaswamy said later.
Haley is about 9 points behind Trump in The Hill/Decision Desk HQ’s polling average for the GOP New Hampshire Primary, sitting at 34 percent support versus the former president’s 43.1 percent. DeSantis is currently at 5.6 percent in the polling average.
Ramaswamy only earned 7.7 percent of the votes in Monday’s Iowa caucuses, behind Haley at 19.1 percent and DeSantis at 21.2 percent. Trump trounced the field with 51 percent of the vote.
The New Hampshire primary, the next stop in the battle for the GOP nomination, is scheduled for next Tuesday.
