‘This is an insult to Indian women and to Bharat Mata,’ the Member of Parliament (MP) from Hooghly added.

The Union Minister Smriti Irani, who defeated the Congress scion from Amethi in the 2019 general elections, also slammed Rahul’s remark.

‘This is the first time in history that a leader is giving a clarion call that Indian women should be raped. Is this Rahul Gandhi's message to the people of the country?’ she thundered in Parliament.

The Wayanad MP on Saturday had said the international community was ridiculing the country and India was now known as the 'rape capital' of the world, leading BJP leaders to demand an unconditional apology from the Congress leader.
