Raging wildfires in Catalonia reach houses

STORY: The fire at Pont de Vilomara town in the Barcelona area has scorched more than 1200 hectares.

Catalan emergency services said 118 firefighters worked overnight to contain the fire with two planes and six helicopters joining the extinguishing efforts on Monday morning.

Elsewhere in Spain, dozens of fires have scorched thousands of acres of land, forcing authorities to evacuate people from their homes.

The heatwave, which began on July 10, has pushed temperatures into the 40s (Celsius) (104 Fahrenheit) making the risk of wildfires greater.
