KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 — The Economy Ministry has received 3,398 applications nationwide for the People’s Facilities Initiative (IKR) since launching it in June, said Rafizi Ramli.

The IKR is a scheme aimed at democratising federal government funds for the maintenance of small-scale infrastructure projects, which are regulated by the state governments and local authorities (PBT).

The economy minister said that of the applications received until August 25, individuals accounted for the most at 1,491, followed by NGOs (989), and government agencies (918).

Sabah topped the list with applications for 909 projects, ahead of Negeri Sembilan (559), and Sarawak (268).

Out of the applications received, Rafizi said 1,385 projects have been approved and submitted to the respective local authorities for further screening before funds are allocated.

According to data, 366 or around 26 per cent of the 1,385 approved projects comprised road repair works.

Applications to the ongoing initiative is subject to criteria such as not exceeding RM200,000 per project and not overlapping with other federally funded schemes.
