Update: The agony is over for BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James, who has finally escaped from his celebrity kidnappers.

The breakfast show host has been at the centre of a huge mystery over the last couple of days, as listeners have tried to solve clues about where he was and who was holding him, following his post-Brit Awards 'ambush'.

And it turns out it was funnyman Alan Carr and Greg's Radio 1 colleague Mollie King who were responsible. And not only that – he'd been on the 39th floor of the UK's tallest building, the Shard, all along!

"I was in the most visible building in London," Greg noted.

Speaking after his ordeal, Alan joked about Greg's room: "It smells like a boy's bedroom in here. I can smell Lynx, I can smell desperation."

Update: Who's got Greg? It turns out there was more to Greg James' no-show on this morning's BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show than meets the eye...

After causing much amusement when he didn't turn up to work after last night's Brit Awards, Greg eventually posted on social media to claim that he'd been blindfolded, bundled into a car and taken to a secret location.

It's now up to listeners to figure out the clues to where the DJ is, and who's holding him. It's a fun game... but we're still a little disappointed Greg's not in bed with a massive hangover ignoring his hundreds of voicemails.

Original story: After evidently having a 'big one' at the Brit Awards last night (February 18), BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James failed to turn up for his morning show today.

The presenter was nowhere to be found when his show came on air at the ungodly time of 6.30am, leaving Adele Roberts to step in, despite having already presented her own show from 4am.

As the show started without him, Adele announced: "Yeah about that, Radio 1 Breakfast with Adele Roberts – I can't believe this is happening."

Adele labelled Greg "a dirty little no-show" as the broadcast began, appealing to viewers to provide an update on his whereabouts.

"Has anyone seen him, on anyone's Instagram? The last I saw him was... you know Grace on Breakfast? He was on Grace's Instagram Stories about midnight.

"I saw a flash of him with Yannis [Philippakis] from Foals. If you do spot him, please do send him our way."

Greg's wife Bella Mackie later tweeted that he hadn't even made it home last night. But Adele soon reassured listeners that he was "very much safe and sound and very much asleep at the moment".

But "he's also very much in trouble".

The warning signs were all there last night as Greg was pictured on Instagram just hours before he was meant to host his show.

And in his own post after the awards, he made it perfectly clear that a 6.30am start would be a mammoth challenge.

"All the best ones won. Foals, Dave (PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT BY A MILLION MILES), Celeste, Mabel, Billie, Capaldi, Stormzy," he wrote. "What a night. 6:30am is gonna be fun."

Well, it wasn't much fun for Adele...
