Rachel Weisz, Colin Farrell Reunite for Todd Solondz’s ‘Love Child,’ Sales to Launch at Cannes

“The Lobster” co-stars Rachel Weisz (“The Favourite”) and Colin Farrell (“The Gentlemen”) are reuniting for Todd Solondz’s “Love Child.”

Solondz (“Welcome to the Dollhouse”) will direct from his own script. In a darkly comic twist on the classical Oedipal story, “Love Child” will follow a precocious child who schemes to rid himself of his brutish father so he can have his mother all to himself. Things go awry when a handsome stranger appears.

“This is my first movie with a plot and my first movie taking place in Texas,” said Solondz. “It’s fun and it’s sexy and it’s shaped by the Hollywood movies that made me want to become a filmmaker. I’ve loved Rachel and Colin’s work forever, and am so honored to be able to excite their passion for serious and unexpected work as well.”

Killer Films’ Christine Vachon (“Dark Waters”) will produce with David Hinojosa (“First Reformed”) on behalf of 2AM. Cinetic Media and CAA Media Finance are arranging the financing and representing the domestic rights along with WME.

Madriver International is handling international sales and will represent the project at the Cannes virtual market.

Weisz, an Oscar winner for “The Constant Gardener,” will next be seen in Marvel’s “Black Widow.” She will also headline and executive produce “Dead Ringers,” a reimagining of David Cronenberg’s cult classic 1980s film with a gender swap, for which Amazon gave a straight-to-series order last year and will debut in 2022.

Weisz is also due to play Elizabeth Taylor in the film “A Special Relationship.”

Farrell will next be seen in “The Batman” reboot and in A24’s “After Yang.”

Rachel Weisz is represented by WME, Independent Talent Group, Linden Entertainment, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman. Meanwhile, Colin Farrell is represented by CAA, Ilene Feldman Management, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller & Gellman.

Todd Solondz is represented by WME and Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz.
