- Rachel Lindsay is criticizing ABC’s new Bachelorette poster featuring Clare Crawley.
- Rachel, who’s a former Bachelorette, addresses the confusion surrounding the ad.
If anyone’s going to speak out about The Bachelorette—it’s Rachel Lindsay. Rachel made history when she was named the first Black Bachelorette. Ever since, she hasn’t been afraid to use her platform to point out the flaws within Bachelor Nation and to hold her fellow stars of the franchise accountable. Now, she’s discussing the controversial Bachelorette poster.
In a recent appearance on EW Live on SiriusXM, Rachel gave her honest opinion of the new Bachelorette poster featuring Clare Crawley. “I didn’t like it,” she admitted. “I didn’t understand it and I don’t think we should be questioning what the ad is and that’s what we are talking about more than we are about her and her season, ’cause I’m excited for Clare. I’ve been a big proponent of her. I’m not sure how all this goes down with all the rumors that are going around but I am excited for Clare and for her to have this moment.”
After host Jessica Shaw explained that the poster is a nod to The Graduate, Rachel became even more upset. The 1960s movie is about an older woman who seduces a younger man, only for him to start dating her daughter. Considering that Clare is a the oldest Bachelorette ever (she’s 39), this seems like a dig at her age. And the tagline really drives the message home: “It’s about time.” Ouch.
“That’s the movie?!” Rachel continued with a laugh. “Okay, I’m watching it tonight. What?! Now I’m hot. I gotta call somebody. I did not realize that. Okay, now I’m a little bothered.”
We all know that Clare’s journey to find love is short-lived and she’ll be replaced with Tayshia Adams, who Rachel is “thrilled” to watch as the new lead. One thing’s for sure: This season is already a hot mess.
