SINGAPORE — The Academy Awards will take place on 26 April at two different venues for social distancing this year – Union Station in downtown Los Angeles and Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
This year’s Awards have been hailed for upping the diversity factor, with nine actors of colour having been nominated, including Asians.
Minari star, Steven Yeun, who is of Korean descent, is the first Asian American nominated for the best actor Oscar. He is joined in that category by British Pakistani actor Riz Ahmed for his role in Sound Of Metal.

Yeun’s co-star in Minari, South Korean Youn Yuh-jung, who received a nod in the supporting actress category, is the first Korean ever to be nominated for any acting Oscar.
Besides acting categories, Chinese American director Chloé Zhao also became the first woman of colour to be nominated for best director, for her film Nomadland.
Minari director, Korean American Lee Isaac Chung, was also nominated for best director.
