Quiver Distribution Takes ‘East of the Mountains,’ Starring Tom Skerritt, Mira Sorvino (EXCLUSIVE)

Quiver Distribution has acquired “East of the Mountains,” starring beloved veteran secondary actor Tom Skerritt, seen in “Alien,” “Top Gun,” and “MASH,” in his first lead role where he plays opposite Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino (“Mighty Aphrodite”) and Annie González (“Gentefied”).

Directed by S.J. Chiro (“Lane 1974”), produced by Jane Charles (“Sold”), and written by Thane Swigart (“Furious Angel”), “East of the Mountains” is based on a best-selling novel by David Guterson, author of “Snow Falling on Cedars.”

Quiver distributes to worldwide audiences via VOD retailers like iTunes, Google Play, and Netflix. It has scored some success from theatrical distribution in the U.S. – such as on the summer drive-in release of Kevin James genre movie “Becky,” and “Crisis,” starring Gary Oldman and Evangeline, which it opened in theaters on Feb. 26 nursing to the No. 1 spot in independent box office charts.

For “East of the Mountains,” Quiver plans a Sept. 24 theatrical release in select theaters and on VOD.

In the film, Skerritt plays Ben Givens, a retired heart surgeon and recent widower who has terminal cancer. Traveling back to his boyhood home in Eastern Washington, he finds that the landscapes of the Columbia basin trigger memories while, the synopsis runs, a connection with a kind stranger (González) offers him new insight. Sorvino plays Givens’ daughter, whom he doesn’t tell about his cancer.

Quiver Distribution describes the film as “a compelling character study offering a long-overdue showcase for one of cinema’s greatest treasures.”

“With an illustrious film career, spanning decades, Tom Skerrett is an industry legend. We are thrilled to be collaborating with him to bring this remarkably moving story to audiences,” said Quiver co-presidents Berry Meyerowitz and Jeff Sackman.

Quiver’s Larry Greenberg negotiated the deal with Charles. Stacey Parks served as a distribution consultant on behalf of the filmmakers. Skerritt, Eliza Flug, Stephen G. Hall, Lynn Hubbard and David Zapolsky executive produce.

Acquiring titles graced by significant talent – Viggo Mortensen’s directorial debut “Falling”; the upcoming “The Survivalist,” starring John Malkovich and Jonathan Rhys Meyers – Quiver focuses on curating a highly selective film slate from established and emerging talent, exploring and exploiting distribution opportunities for filmmakers via distinctly tailor-made campaigns.
