A Quiet Place: Part II hasn't even been released in cinemas yet, but that hasn't stopped John Krasinski from brainstorming potential plot ideas for a third film in the franchise.
In a recent interview with Collider, the writer-actor-director explained that he had never set out to make more than one post-apocalyptic monster movie.
But when the original proved to be a huge success – both critically and financially – and Paramount Pictures came a-knocking once more, he started coming up with all kinds of ways to expand the fictional universe he'd created.
"It's interesting, I genuinely hadn't thought about a second one when I was doing the first one. However, I really had these questions while I was doing it," he recalled.
"I put the fires out in the distance in the first one, and I always thought to myself, 'Wouldn't it be cool if we got to explore where those fires lead to? Who's on the other end of those fires?'"
"But I never thought that there would be a sequel. So then when I actually came around to writing the sequel, I started with the fires.
"And so this time, I think when my brain started wondering [about questions like], 'What would this mean later on?', I started to write down notes in case I could prepare myself for a third one," Krasinski concluded.
Released in 2016, A Quiet Place follows Lee (Krasinski), Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and their children as they attempt to survive in a world overrun with aggressive creatures that are super-sensitive to sound.
A Quiet Place: Part II, which currently has no official release date having been pushed back over coronavirus fears, is set to continue on from the events of the first, as well as go back in time to reveal how the mysterious beasts took over.
