Quick Getaway: Minsk Man Escapes Security Forces Thanks to Taxi Driver

A protester in Minsk had a fast-acting taxi driver to thank when he evaded security forces during anti-government demonstrations in the city on September 23.

Video from local news outlet Euroradio shows the man sprinting towards the taxi with three riot police in pursuit. After the man gets in, the taxi immediately sets off, jumping the pavement and swerving around other cars to get away.

Speaking to Storyful, Euroradio journalist Misha Ilyin said the man shown was “a protester who fled from the security forces.”

The driver, he said, was “a casual taxi driver from Yandex Taxi.”

The incident occurred during protests following the unannounced inauguration of President Alexander Lukashenko to begin his sixth term in office.
