Queensland Police Praise 'Textbook Tackle' as Suspect Car Thief Taken Down

A member of the public was praised for a “textbook tackle” by police in Queensland after a suspected car thief was brought to the ground while fleeing on foot in the Gold Coast on Wednesday, November 10.

Police spotted two men driving what they said was a stolen Volkswagen Golf in traffic at Coomera on Wednesday. Police attempt to intercept the car but it didn’t stop, so they deployed a tire deflation device, they said in a statement.

Footage released by Queensland police on Thursday shows two men fleeing from the car after it came to a stop, with one of them being tackled by a member of the public and another by a police officer.

A 29-year-old Molendinar man, the alleged driver, was charged with 12 offences, including possessing dangerous drugs and stealing, police said; a 22-year-old Chevron Island man was charged with 13 offences, including stealing and receiving tainted property.
