Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme is having emergency surgery, band canceling tour dates

Homme revealed in 2023 that he'd been diagnosed with cancer.

Queens of the Stone Age on Tuesday canceled eight shows in Europe this month, citing guitarist and frontman Josh Homme's health.

According to a statement posted on social media, Homme "must return to the United States immediately for emergency surgery." They added, "Every effort was made to push through and play for you, but it is no longer an option to continue."

The band captioned that official announcement (below) with the message, "Queens are gutted we aren't able to play for you. We apologize for any inconvenience and share in your frustration and disappointment."

Homme is the founder of the group behind hits such as "No One Knows" and "Go With the Flow," and he's the only person who has been a member since they began cranking out songs in 1996. Dean Fertita, Troy Van Leeuwen, Michael Shuman, and Jon Theodore are his current bandmates.

Two years later, he co-founded another band, Eagles of Death Metal, for which he's the drummer.

In June 2023, Homme told Revolver that he had been diagnosed with cancer a year earlier and that he had undergone a successful surgery to remove it. The rocker did not disclose details.

In the same interview, Homme said that music helps him to work out whatever is on his mind.

"I've got nothing against therapy," he said. "I just don't go because I play [music] instead. Over the last couple years, I've done a lot of therapy, but at the end of the day, I understand how to proceed, moving forward with the religion that I use — music."

The Grammy-nominated band released the album In Times New Roman... in June 2023. It was their eighth.

The band is scheduled to return to the road in August, according to its website.
