The Queen visits aircraft carrier ahead of deployment

The Queen has met with crew on board HMS Queen Elizabeth to wish them well as they prepare for the aircraft carrier's first operational deployment. Her Royal Highness was welcomed on board the ship at Portsmouth Naval Base by commanding officer Captain Angus Essenhigh, and Commodore Stephen Moorhouse, commander of the UK Carrier Strike Group (CSG). The Queen was briefed on the ship’s 28-week deployment speaking with some of the 1,700 personnel on board the carrier which include Royal Navy sailors, Royal Air Force airmen and women, Royal Marines, and 250 United States personnel.
