Queen Mary of Denmark Has Relatable Mom Moment as She Reveals Daughters 'Wouldn't Be Caught Dead' in Her Clothes
Princess Isabella has worn pieces from her mother's royal closet before
Queen Mary of Denmark might have a royal closet, but her daughters still aren't the biggest fans of her wardrobe.
King Frederik's wife of 20 years took the stage at the Global Fashion Summit in Copenhagen on May 22, where she revealed that although her two daughters, 17-year-old Princess Isabella and 13-year-old Princess Josephine, can fit into her clothes and shoes, she doesn't have to share pieces often.
"The age gap means they wouldn't be caught dead in them," she said, according to the North West Star.
"However, when they will be seen in something that is mine, it always brings a smile to my face," the royal mom of four, 52, added.

One such occasion was Princess Isabella's confirmation in 2022 when the teen royal sported a white suit previously worn by her mother during a 2017 trip to Stockholm. Adding her own touch to the outfit, Princess Isabella opted for a different brooch than her mother wore with the ensemble. She accessorized with a diamond and pearl brooch that was gifted to Isabella by her grandmother Queen Margrethe on her christening day in 2007 and once belonged to Queen Alexandrine.
At the same event, Princess Josephine wore a pink dress previously worn by her older sister.

At the Global Fashion Summit, Queen Mary praised sustainable fashion trends such as borrowing pieces and shopping at secondhand stores.
"New clothing is no longer seen in opposition to used clothing," she said.
Queen Mary is known for recycling her favorite ensembles over and over. In fact, she has famously worn the same burgundy dress (with the same repeat tiara!) to the Danish royal family's annual New Year reception on multiple occasions, making only slight changes to her hair and jewelry.

Many royal women around the world also repeat clothing choices, especially Kate Middleton, who often recycles pieces from her closet — sometimes going many years between wears.
In a royal first, Princess Kate wore a rented dress to the December 2022 Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Boston. Keeping with the event's earth-friendly theme, guests were asked not to purchase new dresses or suits for the evening. The Princess of Wales adhered to the sustainable fashion guidelines in a bright green off-the-shoulder gown by Solace London, which she rented from HURR, a rental platform in the U.K. for designer dresses.
She accessorized her look with the ultimate rewear: an emerald and diamond choker that belonged to her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Richard Dalton, Diana's longtime hairdresser, recently recalled how she came to wear the necklace as a headband in an iconic fashion moment.
"I think she had sunburn on her neck so we said, ‘Let’s make a headband of it,’ " Dalton said at the Styling Princess Diana panel at Fotografiska New York on May 21, an event coinciding with PEOPLE’s 50th anniversary.
"I asked Evelyn, her dresser, for six inches of knicker elastic, [the kind used by] grannies," he added about how he transformed the accessory into a headpiece.
