The government has made it crystal clear how important it is to remain active during the coronavirus pandemic, accepting daily exercise as one of just a handful of reasons you could leave the house during the height of lockdown. But when you're Boris Johnson, it's not quite so easy just to nip out for an evening jog, or do some circuits down the park. So it seems an alternative solution has been put in place.

With the Queen currently isolating (along with Prince Philip and 22 members of staff) over in Windsor Castle during the coronavirus crisis, Buckingham Palace is not being used. During this time, it seems Elizabeth II has offered the Prime Minister use of the Palace grounds in which to exercise away from the rest of the public. Because can you imagine how much he'd get hounded with chants of 'Why is Cummings not going?' and the like otherwise? Can't say it'd be a particularly enjoyable experience.

On Tuesday morning this week, Boris was spotted at a side entrance to the Buckingham Palace, kitted out in exercise gear consisting of a red T-shirt, blue shorts and trainers (but seemingly no sweatbands).

Speaking to The Times, an insider at Whitehall said: "It's obviously important that the Prime Minister is able to take exercise." Which is true, it is. And with a newborn baby at home, he could probably do with all the fresh air he can get.

Boris' fiancé Carrie Symonds gave birth to baby Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson at the end of last month, just weeks after the PM was discharged from hospital with coronavirus. Boris Johnson hasn't been able to take any paternity leave just yet, being in the midst of a global crisis, but it's thought the father-of-six will take some time out later this year. And during that time, he can do all the exercise he wants.
