Queen Camilla's Ongoing Health Issue Once Again Impacted Her Events Schedule
She's been sick with a chest infection for over two weeks.
It's been more than two weeks since Queen Camilla first came down with a chest infection, and it appears as if she's still struggling to fight off the pesky bug. Just hours before she was scheduled to make an appearance at Royal Albert Hall in London, Buckingham Palace announced that Camilla would be missing the Royal Variety Performance tonight due to her ongoing illness.
“Following a recent chest infection, The Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms, as a result of which doctors have advised that, after a busy week of engagements, Her Majesty should prioritize sufficient rest," the statement read.
“With great regret, she has therefore withdrawn from attendance at tonight’s Royal Variety Performance. His Majesty will attend as planned," the message continued.
According to a royal source, Camilla is said to be the kind of person who believes that the "show must go on," and "sends her sincere apologies to all those involved," per People. The source added, "She hopes to be back to full strength and regular public duties very soon."
Despite missing tonight's event, Camilla has managed to carry on with some appearances this week—including the annual Diplomatic Corps Reception on November 19. For the glam Buckingham Palace reception, the royal wore a blue velvet gown by Fiona Clare along with a rarely-seen aquamarine tiara that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth.
She also hosted a reception for winners of the Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition and was presented with an honorary doctorate of literature from the University of London by Princess Anne, who refused Camilla's attempt to break royalty protocol during the ceremony. According to The Daily Express, when Camilla invited Anne to enter the room before her, the princess "smiled and politely refused, allowing Camilla to enter first" because of the order of precedence, which “is a sequential hierarchy of nominal importance."
