Houston Rockets star Russell Westbrook – a California native – addressed the crowd at an anti-racism protest in Compton on June 7, appealing for those in attendance to “protect your team, protect your family.”
Westbrook was joined at the protest by fellow NBA player DeMar DeRozan of the San Antonio Spurs, as well as musician Kendrick Lamar.
Westbrook, DeRozan, and Lamar all hail from southern California. In footage captured by Los Angeles resident Noah Whitney, Westbrook can also be heard asking those surrounding him to “put a fist up” and observe a moment of silence. Credit: Noah Whitney via Storyful
