This puppeteer creates handmade dolls to tell stories
of Egypt's rich and diverse culture
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) EGYPTIAN PUPPETEER, MOHAMED FAWZY BAKKAR, SAYING:
"Being a puppeteer means I not only make them, but I am also the operator, choreographer, director, art director, composer, voice actor, there's so much involved. I found that through puppeteering, there's a rich cultural mix that satisfied my appetite as an artist and at the same time, it is a cultural mix that satisfies the audience, so it's, as they say, a tasteful mix, one that pulls you in."
Bakkar designs the puppets himself
and makes them resemble real Egyptians from across the country
Each puppet takes around two weeks to complete
