Gary Neville is ‘worried’ about Leicester City after their 5-2 defeat at Brighton made it five losses from their opening six Premier League encounters this season.
It has been a dire start to 2022/23 for the Foxes, who sit bottom of the top flight with one point out of a possible 18.
Brendan Rodgers’ side finished eighth last term and reached the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League.
In 19/20 and 20/21, Leicester had Champions League qualification in their hands but threw away the opportunity to qualify for Europe’s elite competition in both seasons.
They did, however, lift the FA Cup for the first time in their history in 2021.
It has been a very good spell for Rodgers after he left Celtic to replace Claude Puel in February 2019.
He has taken charge of 176 Leicester matches and has been linked with a number of top jobs in England.
The Northern Irishman faces his sternest test as Foxes boss and is currently the favourite to be the next Premier League manager sacked.
The club’s next match is at home to Aston Villa, who are also struggling with Steven Gerrard under immense pressure.
It is a must-win for Rodgers, who is yet to taste victory this campaign.
Leicester’s pitiful start to 22/23 is very worrying after an equally as concerning summer transfer window.
They made two signings, bringing in goalkeeper Alex Smithies on a free transfer and Wout Faes from Stade Reims for £15million on deadline day.
The Foxes lost two crucial players as well, selling Wesley Fofana to Chelsea for around £72m and club captain Kasper Schmeichel to Nice for a measly £2m.
Schmeichel’s sale caught many by surprise, but with a single year left on his contract, the King Power club let the Danish goalkeeper take on a new challenge after his terrific service.
Former Manchester United right-back says he is ‘really worried about Leicester’ and has attributed their woeful start to the sale of Schmeichel.
“I really worry about Leicester,” he said on The Gary Neville Podcast.
“I have to say earlier on in the season when Kasper Schmeichel went to Nice, I thought why? Why’s that one been sanctioned?
“Because you talk about characters and the impact that they have, Kasper Schmeichel is not only a very good goalkeeper but you can imagine the presence he’d have on that dressing room and the comfort he would give for everybody, you can’t replace that very easily, you can’t replace that.
“They’ve lost [Harry] Maguire before, N’Golo Kante before, [Riyad] Mahrez, they’ve lost players before but I thought it was a strange thing to do. Then [Wesley] Fofana has left.
“I’d be worried if I was a Leicester fan, rumours that the manager is in trouble… Brendan Rodgers has done a brilliant job there.”
