The question of when we might be able to get out there and explore the world again is on everyone’s minds. For now, while we might not be able to travel overseas (anytime soon), Malaysians can still have a little hope as more islands have come up with plans to slowly reopen through their mass inoculation outreach.

Pulau Redang in Terengganu is the latest island to join the club. Recently, 517 tourism industry players comprising of hotel operators and employees, as well as boat drivers, received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as of 31 July.

Terengganu Tourism Department said that this will be in preparation for the tourism revival in Pulau Redang, which has not been receiving tourists due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The state government also hoped that the federal government would consider allowing inter-district travel for fully-vaccinated individuals to help revive the Terengganu tourism industry.

Langkawi, Pulau Tioman, and Perak’s Pangkor Island are all popular resort islands that have embarked on a mass inoculation programme with plans of reopening by end of the year for those who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

As for now, the Malaysian borders will remain closed as the number of COVID-19 cases worldwide is still rising.
