‘Psych’: Third Revival Movie Ordered at Peacock

A third “Psych” revival movie, titled “Psych 3: This Is Gus,” has been ordered at Peacock, Variety has learned.

In the film, in preparation for a shotgun wedding before the birth of Baby Guster, Shawn (James Roday Rodriguez) and Groomzilla Gus (Dulé Hill) go rogue in an attempt to track down Selene’s (Jazmyn Simon) estranged husband, as Lassiter (Timothy Omundson) grapples with the future of his career.

Along with the previously announced cast members, original series stars Maggie Lawson, Kristen Nelson, and Corbin Bernsen will reprise their roles from the beloved USA Network series. The film will begin production in Vancouver this summer.

“Psych” creator Steve Franks will co-write along with Rodriguez. Both will also executive produce with Franks also directing. Hill is also an executive producer along with Chris Henze of Thruline.

“Psych” aired on USA Network for eight seasons and 120 episodes from 2006-2014. In that time, the team behind the show also produced the special “Psych: The Musical” in 2013. The first revival movie was released on USA Network in 2017, drawing solid ratings and reviews. The second movie, “Psych 2: Lassie Come Home,” debuted exclusively on Peacock in July 2020. The second film was notable in that Omundson was able to play a more central role, given that he suffered a major stroke just prior to filming the first film, leading to his part being scaled back.

“There was a hole when we were filming the first movie,” Hill said during an ATX Television Festival panel last year. “As much fun as we had doing it, Tim wasn’t there.”
