Protests over Castillo's ouster resume in Peru

STORY: Protests in various cities including Lima, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco saw Castillo's supporters setting up barricades, lighting tires on fire or marching.

Representatives of civil groups and unions from 10 historically leftist regions in Peru's south had announced the resumption of protests demanding the resignation of current President Dina Boluarte, the closure of Congress, changes to the constitution and Castillo's release.

“The protest mainly demands the recuperation of democracy. It rejects the usurper government, and also this corrupt congress that does not even have an 8% of acceptance rate,” said a protester in Puno.

In Lima, protester Mario Tairo said he was demonstrating against corruption, injustice, president Boluarte and the congress.
