Protests in Myanmar Against Military Takeover

Residents of Yangon protested against the military takeover of Myanmar for a second night in a row, as drivers honked car horns and people banged pots from their balconies on February 3.

This footage, by Valentina Desouza, shows residents of Yangon banging pots to show their opposition to the detention of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi and other elected officials.

The Myanmar Times said the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Gen Min Aung Hlaing, had taken full control of the government.

The military seized power following its allegations of voting irregularities in a November election won by Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy.

Suu Kyi was charged with illegally importing communications equipment, reports said. Credit: Valentina Desouza via Storyful
