Protesters Oppose Netanyahu's Proposed Judicial Reforms in Tel Aviv

Protesters clashed with police in Tel Aviv on Wednesday, March 1, as they blocked roads and public transport as part of action against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s proposed judicial reform.

Footage recorded by @lirishavit shows protesters and mounted police on the Ayalon Highway.

A thick haze can be seen in the air, amid reports in local media that police used stun grenades to disperse the crowd.

Yair Lapid, the leader of the Israeli opposition, expressed his support for the protesters on Wednesday, calling them “patriots and lovers of Israel”.

Netanyahu’s proposed judicial reforms involve an overhaul of the powers of the Supreme Court and a balancing of power between the branches of government.

Critics, however, say the reforms are a threat to Israeli democracy and security. Credit: @lirishavit via Storyful
