Masked individuals were seen pulling protesters into parked vans in Minsk, Belarus, on September 13, during the ‘March Of Heroes’ demonstration calling for the end of Alexander Lukashenko’s presidency.
Video filmed by local news outlet TUT.by shows a number of people being chased, tackled to the ground, detained by plain-clothed individuals wearing black balaclavas, and put into unmarked vans. Riot police later arrive on the scene as crowds clash with the individuals, who continue to detain protesters.
Tens of thousands of Belarusians gathered in downtown Minsk for the marches, continuing weeks of anti-Lukashenko protests with thousands of arrests, beatings, and intimidation, according to Radio Free Liberty/Radio Free Europe (RFE/RL).
RFE/RL reported that the country’s Interior Ministry had said that it had already detained “around 250 people” on September 13, for offences like “displaying the banned red-and-white flag associated with the opposition and banners.” Credit: TUT.by via Storyful
