Protesters Chant Anti-Monarchy Slogans in Trafalgar Square Ahead of Coronation

Protesters chanted anti-monarchy slogans as the royal procession passed Trafalgar Square on Saturday, May 6, ahead of the coronation of King Charles III.

The protest was organized by Republic, a group campaigning to abolish the monarchy in the United Kingdom.

Footage shows protesters chanting slogans such as “not my king,” “down with the Crown,” and “shame on you” as the royal procession proceeded to Westminster Abbey for the coronation ceremony.

An unusual chant was also heard, as protesters replaced the lyrics of “God Save the King” with “Oh Gary Lineker.”

Protesters were arrested in central London earlier on Saturday. According to the Metropolitan Police, they were held on suspicion of conspiracy to cause public nuisance. Credit: Anonymous via Storyful
