Protesters hurled criticism at outdoor diners during a demonstration against racist policing in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, September 5.
Grace Harvey, who shot the video, said she was having a late lunch at Sienna Mercato while a peaceful demonstration was taking place in the street beside the restaurant.
Then, according to Harvey, a group of protesters started to scream and harass her and other restaurant patrons from the sidewalk, causing some of them to vacate their tables.
The video shows an older white couple was targeted specifically, as a protester entered the restaurant property and began yelling and cursing directly at them, while other protesters joined in from the sidewalk.
Then, a protester since identified by media as Nique Craft can be seen walking up to the couple’s table, grabbing one of their beverages, and drinking some of it before placing the glass back down.
Harvey said she witnessed people being bullied, harassed, and physically assaulted at certain points during the demonstration, saying, “people were shaken and scared as they ran away from their tables around us.”
Protesters maintained that the situation was more nuanced than Harvey’s account indicates and that various confrontations preceded what is shown in the video, local media reported. Credit: Grace Harvey via Storyful
