SINGAPORE — Proofer Bakery's food business operations have been suspended, following the discovery of a "massive pest infestation" including live cockroaches, rodent activity, and dead rodents at its central kitchen.

The suspension started on Tuesday (26 October) and will be in effect until further notice, said the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) in a media release on the same day.

The company has also been asked to recall food products that have been distributed to its 16 retail outlets as a precautionary measure, SFA added.

The pest infestation was observed at the kitchen's food preparation areas and in food delivery trucks during an inspection of the premises on Tuesday, according to SFA.

Several lapses relating to poor maintenance of the kitchen, located at 171 Kampong Ampat, were also observed, it added.

"In the interest of public health, SFA directed the licensee to rectify the lapses and take necessary measures to improve the food safety practices and the cleanliness of its premises."

Food operators who do not adhere to regulations or comply with food safety requirements can be fined up to $10,000 or jailed up to 12 months, or both, if convicted.

The SFA also advised members of the public who come across poor food safety practices in food establishments not to patronise them and to provide detailed feedback on www.sfa.gov.sg/feedback.

Proofer Bakery's Facebook page was updated with a post on Tuesday evening, stating that it is closed for cleaning and will resume business on Wednesday.
