Prolific attacker already ‘considers himself a Chelsea player’ with earliest date of agreed transfer revealed
Chelsea already have one summer signing in the bag despite things going a little quiet recently, with a report confirming a deal is “100%” done.
Over the past two transfer windows, Chelsea have been the biggest spenders in world football. They have invested heavily in their playing squad, although their results on the pitch have been inconsistent since.
Still, Chelsea are gearing up for another major recruitment drive in the summer. Issues to resolve include settling on a number one goalkeeper, evolving their midfield further and adding a reliable goalscorer to their attack.
A recent report has revealed four big names on Chelsea’s radar to address their concerns in midfield.
Further ahead, they have some ideas of how to improve their efficiency in front of goal. One target who could help in that regard is RB Leipzig winger, Christopher Nkunku.
Nkunku enjoyed an extraordinary 2021-22 season, in which he scored 35 goals from 52 appearances. This season, he has got 17 goals from 27 games so far.
It has seemed obvious for a while that it will be his last campaign with RB Leipzig. As far back as September, reports began to emerge about the work Chelsea were secretly putting into a 2023 transfer for the Frenchman.
By November, it was obvious that Nkunku’s destiny is to become a Chelsea player, with everything agreed behind the scenes.
Little has been mentioned of Nkunku’s upcoming transfer to Chelsea in the past few weeks, though. Besides, there haven’t been any official announcements to date. Yet an update from Football Insider assures that there is nothing to worry about.
Nkunku transfer to Chelsea is all sorted
According to the website, there is indeed a “full agreement” in place between Chelsea and RB Leipzig. It is “100%” confirmed that Nkunku will be joining the Blues.
In fact, the report says that he “considers himself a Chelsea player” already, despite still having commitments with RB Leipzig for the rest of the season.
Officially, Nkunku could join Chelsea on July 1. At the age of 25, he should then be committing some of his prime years to the club.
His prolific form in front of goal over the past couple of years should be beneficial to Graham Potter’s side, even if he isn’t an out-and-out centre-forward. As a versatile attacker, though, there will be plenty of ways in which he can contribute.
For now, Chelsea will have to try and secure as high a finish as they can in the Premier League until Nkunku arrives for next season. At this rate, qualification for European competition might be a struggle, but there are still plenty of points that can be gained.
