Pro-Democracy Protesters Throng Bangkok's Victory Monument

Pro-democracy protesters rallied in central Bangkok on Sunday, October 18, as demonstrations continued to escalate in Thailand.

The Bangkok Post reported crowds thronged Bangkok’s Victory Monument and Asok intersection after organizers announced they would be the principal rally sites in the ongoing protests. Supporting rallies took place in 18 other locations around Thailand on Sunday, the outlet reported.

Protesters are demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and a fresh constitution. Some demonstrators have called for reforms of the country’s system of monarchy — a risky position in Thailand, where criticism of the monarchy is criminalized.
