  • The film is set to start production soon and will hit theaters in 2021.

Priyanka Chopra could be entering the Matrix. The Baywatch and Quantico star is reportedly in final negotiations to join the cast of the franchise's upcoming fourth installment, according to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.

If the deal goes through, Chopra would accompany stars of the original trilogy, Keanu Reeves (Neo) and Carrie-Anne Moss (Trinity), plus new additions like Neil Patrick Harris and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Watchmen), whose roles have not yet been revealed.

Warner Bros. announced in August 2019 that The Matrix 4 (which does not yet have an official title) was indeed happening. The film is slated for release on May 21, 2021—18 years after the last film in the franchise debuted. The cast has already been fight training for weeks, as production is slated to start soon in Northern California, per Variety.

Lana Wachowski, who co-directed the original series with sibling Lilly Wachowski, will co-write and direct the upcoming project. Details of the plot remain close-guarded, but Reeves previously teased, "It's very ambitious. As it should be!"

Last year, Chopra appeared in the Indian film The Sky Is Pink and rom-com Isn't It Romantic, but she has a handful of new projects underway. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she'll also appear in the Amazon Studios miniseries Citadel and Netflix's The White Tiger and We Can Be Heroes.
