Princess Eugenie’s youngest son is marking a major milestone: his first birthday!
Eugenie, 34, posted an Instagram tribute on May 30 to celebrate her son Ernest turning 1. The royal's post featured four new photos of the baby boy, including a new picture with his big brother, August, 3, and insight into the "special" thing Ernest saves for her.
"One year of you my dear Ernest. Happy birthday!!" she wrote below the photos. "We all love you so much, especially your enormous smile you give the world.. but you always save an extra special one for Mumma. Xxx 😘"
The tribute opened with a picture of Ernest sitting in the grass, taken from behind and wearing a sports jersey featuring the number nine and his nickname, Ernie. Shortly after Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed their second son in May 2023, proud grandmother Sarah Ferguson confirmed that her family was calling Ernest by the moniker on her podcast, Tea Talks with the Duchess and Sarah.
The Duchess of York, 64, also said on the show that it "made me cry" when Eugenie and Jack told her that they chose the name Ernest George Ronnie for their younger son, his second middle name a tribute to her late father, Major Ronald Ferguson.
Princess Eugenie’s birthday post for her baby continued with another photo of him from behind, showing him seated with toys in front of him and wearing a black hoodie with a name tag.
Next up was a picture of Ernest playing in the grass in a blue sweater before an Easter egg decoration and daffodils.
The final photo showed a sweet sibling moment between Ernest and his big brother, August. The snap, taken in what appeared to be a museum with a display showing elephant statues and other animal bones, focused on August (who is affectionately nicknamed Augie) giving his younger brother a sweet kiss on the head as they sat together sporting green tops.

Prince Andrew and Fergie's younger daughter is one of the few members of the next generation of the royal family to maintain a public presence on social media and is known to post tributes for her loved ones’ birthdays. On May 3, Eugenie posted three new photos to mark Jack’s 38th birthday, including a silly shot of him playing with August.
"Happy Happy Birthday my love. Always making joy wherever you are. 😍😍😍," Princess Eugenie captioned the images on Instagram.
The montage opened with a picture of Princess Eugenie and Jack during a glam date night at the inaugural Winter Gala for her charity The Anti-Slavery Collective in November 2023 and segued to a picture of Jack and Ernest playing on the beach, where the doting dad had seaweed under his hat! The royal’s birthday tribute to her husband of five years wrapped with a snap of them together on the beach before sunset, raising their arms in the air.
In a relatable revelation, Princess Eugenie previously spoke about the pressure of maintaining a social media presence and feeling like the hype is heightened as a public figure.
"I do my own Instagram and I find it the most stressful thing in the world," Eugenie said on the White Wine Question Time podcast in October 2023. "Oh my God, I get so nervous. Before I post I have to text about five people asking if it’s okay, have I got a spelling mistake, am I gonna get in trouble?"
Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter admitted that she was "very nervous" about starting an Instagram account in 2018 but took the risk.
"I want people to know me,” she said, explaining that there has been "so much misinformation."
Although Princess Eugenie is not a full-time working member of the royal family, she recently supported her cousin Prince William in hosting a Buckingham Palace garden party on May 21. The event doubled as a rare public outing for five of Queen Elizabeth's eight grandchildren, with William and Eugenie also teaming up with Princess Beatrice, Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall.
