Princess Eugenie has paid tribute to her "dearest grandpa" the Duke of Edinburgh, promising to look after the Queen after his death.

Eugenie is the second daughter of Prince Andrew, the third child of the Queen and Prince Philip.

Sharing two images on Instagram, Eugenie wrote: "Dearest Grandpa,⁣

"We all miss you. ⁣

"You would be so touched by all the tributes that have been shared with me the past few days.

"People remember sitting next to you at a dinner, or shaking your hand once, who remember you saying hello in passing, or remember how much their DofE award meant to them. ⁣

"I remember learning how to cook, how to paint, what to read. I remember laughing at your jokes and asking about your spectacular life and service in the navy.

"I remember incinerating the sausages and you swooping in to save the day.

"I remember your hands and your laugh and your favourite beer. ⁣

"I will remember you in your children, your grandchildren and great grandchildren. ⁣

"Thank you for your dedication and love for us all and especially Granny, who we will look after for you. ⁣

"With all my love, Eugenie."

Princess Eugenie has not spoken publicly since the death of her grandfather on 9 April, as older family members paid their tributes first.

She has waited until her cousins, Prince William and Prince Harry, had made their remarks before sharing her own memories of their grandfather.

Eugenie welcomed her first son August in February, and she and her husband Jack Brooksbank gave him Philip as one of his middle names, after his great-grandfather.

Alongside the message she chose two pictures, one from 2012, which showed her with Princess Beatrice and Prince Philip in the royal box at Epsom on Derby Day.

She also shared a childhood photo of the duke placing his hand affectionately on her head. Prince Charles can be seen in the background.

She is wrapped up in a coat and gloves and the image may have been taken at Sandringham at Christmas.

Speaking about her grandfather for a documentary about the Queen on her 90th birthday, Eugenie said: "I think Grandpa is incredible.

"He really is strong and consistent. He's been there for all these years, and I think he's the rock, you know, for all of us."

Eugenie, 31, is more active on social media than her older sister Beatrice.

In recent days, the duke's grandchildren have paid tribute to him, with Harry describing him as a "master of the barbecue and legend of banter".

William, 38, said he felt "lucky" to have had his guidance as a child and an adult "through good times and the hardest days".

The duke and the Queen's other grandchildren include Peter Phillips and Zara Tindall, the children of Princess Anne, and Lady Louise Windsor and James, the Viscount Severn, the children of Prince Edward and Sophie.

The family will be united on 17 April for the duke's funeral, which will take place at 3pm at St George's Chapel in Windsor.

It's the church both Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie chose for their respective wedding days in 2018.
