Princess Diana's Brother Charles Spencer Visited Her Grave at Althorp House for Christmas
Spencer shed light on his favorite place to sit at Diana's memorial.
It's been 27 years since Princess Diana's passing, but she's still remembered by her loved ones, even around the holiday season when life gets hectic.
Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, revealed that he paid Diana's grave at the Althorp House a visit on Christmas Eve via his Instagram Stories. "My favorite bench—good place to sit on Christmas Eve during a quiet moment," he captioned the photo, taken at "The Temple" at Althorp House, which later became a memorial to Diana following her death.
It's not surprising that Spencer would visit Diana on Christmas Eve—back in October, he revealed during an appearance on Good Morning Britain that he is charge of the family's historic Althorp estate where Diana is buried, and as a result is able to pay his late sister a visit on a regular basis. "I go pretty much every day," he said, though it's "not always" that he has a conversation with her on the grounds.
With his close relationship with Diana, Spencer delivered the eulogy at Diana's funeral, serving as “the representative of a family in grief, in a country in mourning, before a world in shock.” He used the speech to condemn the intense media treatment and scrutiny Diana received from the media, and called her “the most hunted person of the modern age.”
While later speaking with People, Spencer said the now-iconic line “summed up so much of the anger I felt toward those who had done that to her." The eulogy was both physically and mentally taxing on Spencer, with his grief almost getting the best of him: "In the final paragraph I had run out of energy, almost out of oxygen. I had to punch each syllable out of the base of my stomach.”
