Princess Beatrice Gushes About Borrowing Her Wedding Gown from the Queen

From Harper's BAZAAR

When Princess Beatrice got married to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in July 2020, she did so wearing an exquisite gown borrowed from her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. Now, Princess Beatrice has opened up about her decision to loan the iconic dress from the queen's closet.

Beatrice's wedding dress is currently on display at Windsor Castle, and the princess has already paid a visit to the exhibition. Sharing news of the exhibit on Twitter, Beatrice wrote, "It was an honour to wear my grandmother’s beautiful dress on my wedding day, I hope many of you are able to visit the exhibition which is still open at Windsor Castle."

The dress was originally designed for the queen by Sir Norman Hartnell. The vintage gown is made of ivory peau de soie taffeta, and features diamanté adornments on the bodice, a skirt trimmed in ivory duchess satin, and organza sleeves. The gown was remodelled for Beatrice by Angela Kelly and Stewart Parvin, both of whom regularly work with the queen.

Princess Beatrice also took the opportunity to thank royal fans for their wedding well-wishes on Twitter. She wrote on Friday, "Thank you to everyone who has sent in and tweeted their best wishes for our special day in July. Edo and I are so excited to embark on this new chapter together."

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Princess Beatrice's wedding was a relatively private affair, with a selective guest list, so as to adhere to COVID-19 restrictions in the United Kingdom.
