When the time comes for Prince William to ascend to the throne and take his place as the King of England, the big day might have one missing guest: his brother, Prince Harry. According to sources speaking to The Sunday Times, the brothers' relationship is so strained right now that William has mentioned not inviting Harry to his coronation.

"This year, his focus has very much been on his wife, his children, and his father," a friend told the publication. "His brother isn’t really something that’s discussed."

Speaking about the idea of having a reunion at William's coronation, whenever that may be, sources said, "They are estranged, which is dreadfully sad."

Other insiders say that many people expected the two to have made up by now. Unfortunately for royal fans hoping for a reconciliation, it hasn't been the case—and doesn't seem to be something that's on the horizon.

"I always said the brothers would be there for each other at the end of the day, and that’s been proven wrong so far," an additional source explained. Another added, "Harry simply cannot do without his brother."

According to Spare, the last time that Harry spoke to his brother was at Queen Elizabeth's funeral. In his memoir, he wrote that they "barely exchanged a word."

Harry did attend his father's coronation last year, but he didn't interact with his brother or his sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, according to guests in attendance. Insiders cited Harry's memoir as one of the reasons many people kept their distance.

“The problem for the king and other members of the family is the worry that if they have a chat with Harry, it will appear in Spare volume two,” a friend of Charles told The Times. “How do you regain the trust? I don’t think Harry ever can.”

While Harry's relationship with his brother may seem irreparable, there could be hope for a father-son make-up between Charles and Harry.

"From the conversations I've had with the king, I would never say their relationship is irreparable," a source noted. "The king’s capacity to forgive his son is undimmed. There are other members of the royal family who are much more weighted against Harry, that’s the problem."
