When it comes to passing his driving test, Prince William apparently found the rite of passage to be a breeze.

At an engagement on Oct. 9, the Prince of Wales, who is the president of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), was at the London headquarters of the organization to meet recipients of the Prince William BAFTA Bursary fund. The fund provides grants to help young people from underrepresented groups develop their careers in film, television and games.

One student said they’d used the money from the grant to pay for driving lessons to travel to film shoots and auditions, according to the Times. The student asked William, 42, how many times he had taken his driving test.

“Thankfully, I passed first time,” he responded.

This wasn’t the only relatable anecdote Prince William shared at BAFTA on Wednesday. At the event — co-hosted by BAFTA and The Royal African Society, of which the Prince of Wales is patron — Prince William highlighted the importance of young people in the film, television and games industries. He, as ever, had three young people in particular on his mind: his children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, whom he shares with wife Kate Middleton, 42.

Speaking to Erik Scott, a National Film and TV School student who is on the committee for the upcoming Film Africa festival, Prince William joked that his three kids are “always wrestling over the remote” because of the amount of screen content available today, Hello! reported.

Prince William also spoke about limiting George, Charlotte and Louis’ screen time during a previous visit to BAFTA in January 2022. While hearing about how the next generation is developing careers in the creative arts, Prince William said that Prince George was a fan of gaming — but that he and Princess Kate were “trying to regulate” his screen time.

“They’re fascinated by it,” William said at the time.

Of Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis (who were 6 and 3 at the time, respectively), the royal added that they were “a bit too small at the moment, but they love the films.”

Speaking of beloved films, William used the Oct. 9 engagement to ask for another movie in the Bourne franchise, as he had the ear of Paul Greengrass, a director who helmed three of the Bourne films (2004’s The Bourne Supremacy, 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum and 2016’s Jason Bourne). According to the Independent, William hinted to Greengrass, “Another Bourne, another Bourne” — but the Times reported that “Greengrass laughed and shook his head” at the suggestion.

Prince William also opened up about what his family watched over the summer at an Oct. 3 engagement at the recently reopened Birtley Community Pool, when he told British Olympic swimmer Tom Dean that he and his family followed Team Great Britain at the 2024 Paris Olympics on television.

“We watched the whole thing,” William said. “We were glued to it every day.”
