Prince William Publicly Mentioned Harry for the First Time Amidst Their Feud
He was feeling nostalgic.
The rift in Prince William and Prince William’s once-strong relationship has reached a breaking point, despite reports that Kate Middleton and other members of the royal family hope the brothers eventually can see eye to eye. While the brothers haven’t publicly acknowledged each other in years, even when they both recently attended the same family funeral, William appeared to be feeling nostalgic as he unexpectedly mentioned his younger brother publicly for the first time amidst their ongoing feud.
In an Oct. 26 teaser clip from his upcoming two-part documentary Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, which will air on Oct. 30 and 31 on ITV, William opened up about a meaningful experience he shared with Harry and his late mother, Princess Diana, when he was a child. The Prince of Wales revealed that his five-year Homewards program, which aims to show that homelessness can be ended, was inspired by a day at a U.K. charity called The Passage with his mom and Harry.
"My mother took me to The Passage,” he said in the clip as a photo of him and his little brother played in the background. He added, “She took Harry and I both there. I must have been 11 at the time, maybe 10. I had never been to anything like that before, and I was a bit anxious about what to expect.”
William, who’s been a patron of The Passage since 2019, shared that he and his brother were surprised by how “how happy an environment it was” as they hung out and played chess with the people there.
"I remember having some good conversations, playing chess, chatting and that’s when it dawned on me that there were other people out there who don’t have the same life as you do,” the heir to the throne continued.” You know, when you’re quite small, you just think life is what you see in front of you and you don’t really have [the] concept to look elsewhere. It's when you meet people, as I did then, who put a different perspective in your head and say, 'Well, I was living on the street last night,' and you’re like, 'Woah.' I remember that happening."
He also opened up about Princess Diana’s unique ability to bring people together and make everyone feel comfortable. "My mother went about her usual, making everyone feel relaxed, having a laugh and joking with everyone," he says.
While William and Harry’s relationship isn’t in the best place right now and the Prince of Wales has reportedly ignored the Duke of Sussex’s texts, calls, and messages, a royal insider told People that there was a possibility that their ongoing feud could have an end date. The rift is “very bad” but not “irreparable,” a source told the publication.
