Prince William Was Inspired By Prince Charles & Prince Philip to Start Earthshot Prize

From Harper's BAZAAR

In a new Instagram post on the official Kensington Palace account, Prince William has revealed the family members who have inspired his current conservation work. The prince recently launched The Earthshot Prize, which aims to encourage creative solutions to the world's environmental problems. By offering substantial financial grants, the prize hopes to focus people all over the world on bettering crucial issues such as climate and energy, nature and biodiversity, air pollution, and fresh water.

As for why world conservation is so important to him, William explained, "I think with the family you get that generational hand on, and I think I’ve really picked up on the fact that my grandfather started caring a long time ago about the natural world, and my father’s spoken a lot and cares about the environment."

William hopes that the new prize will help make a real difference in the world by 2030. The Duke of Cambridge revealed during the documentary A Planet For Us All, "My grandfather was well ahead of his time. My father was ahead of his time. I really want to make sure that, in 20 years, George doesn't turn around and say, are you ahead of your time? Because if he does, we're too late."

Meanwhile, a Kensington Palace aide previously told BAZAAR.com, "His confidence has grown along the way [of working on The Earthshot Prize] and he is excited to be working with a team that can support him as he knows that him alone is not enough. He has a global leadership role to play and now is the time to play it."
