Prince Harry’s statement confirming Meghan Markle romance removed from royal family website
The royal family’s website removed Prince Harry’s 2016 statement confirming his relationship with now-wife Meghan Markle, according to multiple outlets.
The link to the November 2016 statement — in which a spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex, 39, lambasted the “wave of abuse and harassment” leveled at the 42-year-old “Suits” alum — is newly inactive.
The link appears to have been removed between Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, 2023, as internet archive site Wayback Machine notes it was accessible on the former date but not the latter, per Newsweek.
Though the alteration looks to have occurred late last year, the news comes just weeks after the couple’s charity, the Archewell Foundation, was declared “delinquent” by authorities in Markle’s native California. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly last filed tax returns for 2022.
Also earlier this month, People reported that Harry had invited King Charles, Prince William and Kate Middleton to attend a 10th anniversary service for his Invictus Games, only for the trio to skip the milestone event. The monarch, 75, and Princess of Wales, 42, have both been undergoing cancer treatment of late.
The Sussexes, who wed in May 2018 and share two young children, stepped back from senior royal duties in early 2020 and decamped to the Golden State.
Back in March of this year, their respective biographies on the royal site were merged into a joint profile, People reported at the time. The site does link to the couple’s new Sussex.com, which was launched weeks prior.
