Prince George Was Gifted a Megalodon Tooth During David Attenborough's Visit

On Saturday, Kate Middleton and Prince William released two new photos of their family. The snaps were taken in the gardens of Kensington Palace during a visit by Sir David Attenborough.

Attenborough attended the palace to show William his latest movie, David Attenborough: A Life On Our Planet, in an outdoor screening, as the Duke of Cambridge has collaborated with the filmmaker on a number of occasions. The Cambridge children were extremely excited about their visitor, especially as Attenborough brought an extra special gift with him.

Per Kensington Palace's Instagram post, Attenborough gave Prince George a megalodon tooth, which the little royal can be seen holding in both new photos. According to the post, "Sir David gave Prince George a tooth from a giant shark ... the scientific name of which is carcharocles megalodon (‘big tooth’)." The caption also explained, "Sir David found the tooth on a family holiday to Malta in the late 1960s ... Carcharocles is believed to have grown to 15 metres in length, which is about twice the length of the Great White, the largest shark alive today."

Understandably, Prince George looked delighted with the rare present, and little Louis was in awe of his brother's gift.

Attenborough's forthcoming film will be available to stream globally on Netflix from October 4. A press release described Attenborough's film as "his most personal project to date, in which he presents some of the most defining moments of his career as a naturalist and the devastating changes he has seen."
