Prince Charles has unveiled a memorial to police officers killed in the line of duty. He was joined by relatives of fallen officers at the National Memorial Arboretum. Almost 5,000 officers and staff have died on duty including 1,500 according to official figures. PCs Fiona Bone and Nichola Hughes were killed in a gun and grenade attack. After responding to a hoax burglary call in Greater Manchester in 2012. Yvonne Fletcher was shot in 1984 at a protest outside the Libyan Embassy in London. Nobody was ever charged with her killing. Keith Blakelock was stabbed to death in 1985 while trying to protect firefighters during the Broadwater Farm riots in Tottenham. Despite numerous investigations, no-one has been convicted of his murder. Andrew Harper was killed in 2019 after being dragged for more than a mile behind a car as he tried to stop a group of men stealing a quad bike in Berkshire. Henry Long was jailed for 16 years for manslaughter while passengers Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers rec.
