How Prince Archie Destroyed Meghan Markle's Surprising Christmas Gift for Prince Harry
And adorably attempted to fix it.
From a "Grow Your Own Girlfriend" kit to leather toilet seats, the royal family is known for swapping silly presents in lieu of expensive gifts on Christmas. And apparently, it's a tradition that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry continued to keep even after stepping down as senior royals and moving to California.
From an excerpt in his book Spare published by The Sun on Friday, Harry shared a hilarious anecdote about the couple's first Christmas in the United States back in 2020. Writing that Meghan kept with "the Windsor Family tradition," Harry revealed that his wife gifted him a "little Christmas ornament of...the Queen!"
He added, "I roared. What the—?"
"Meg had spotted it in a local store and thought I might like it. I held it to the light. It was Granny’s face to a T," Harry continued. "I hung it on an eye-level branch. It made me happy to see her there. It made Meg and me smile."
Sadly, their joy didn't last long, as the ornament eventually found itself smashed on the floor. "Archie, playing around the tree, jostled the stand, shook the tree, and Granny fell," the Duke of Sussex wrote. "I heard a smash and turned. Pieces lay all over the floor."
Archie, who was 18 months old at the time, adorably tried to fix what he had done. "Archie ran and grabbed a spray bottle," Harry revealed. "For some reason he thought spraying water on the broken pieces would fix it."
The story took a turn for the humorous when Meghan then told her son, "No, Archie, no—do not spray Gan-Gan!" Harry then wrote that he grabbed a dustpan and began sweeping up the pieces, thinking to himself: "This is weird."
This year, the Sussexes are reportedly planning another quiet Christmas at home with their two kids—Archie and Lilibet—as well as Meghan's mom, Doria Ragland. “Meghan’s mom Doria will join them at home in Montecito and they’ll ensure the children have a joyful day, despite not being around extended family,” a source told Closer (via The Post), noting that the couple wasn't invited to spend the holidays at Sandringham with the rest of the royal family.
"It’s not surprising as they didn’t expect an invite, and even if one had been offered, they would likely decline," the insider added.
