Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Katie Couric and More React to Kate Middleton's Cancer News
Among those who expressed their condolences are Olivia Munn, Katie Couric and Rishi Sunak, the prime minister of the United Kingdom
Kate Middleton's cancer news is being met with heartfelt reactions from celebrities, royals and prominent figures.
The Princess of Wales, 42, announced on Friday that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy for cancer. The news follows Kensington Palace's announcement in January that she underwent a "planned abdominal surgery."
Kate said in the video, "In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment."
Her news resonated with many, including Olivia Munn, who recently disclosed her own diagnosis of breast cancer. Munn commented, "Thank you for showing what it’s like to fight with grace and determination for yourself and for your family. Wishing you all the best."
Former Today show anchor Katie Couric, who battled breast cancer in 2022, expressed her support by liking the royal's video on social media.
Meanwhile, Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones wrote on Instagram, "Wales and the World is with you ♥️ HRH Princess of Wales. Love to you always."
In addition to the support from Prince William that Princess Kate spoke about in her video, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said that King Charles, who is undergoing cancer treatment himself, is "so proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking as she did."
King Charles and Princess Kate were both hospitalized at The London Clinic in January, and the monarch has "remained in the closest contact with his beloved daughter-in-law throughout the past weeks."
James Middleton, the royal's younger brother, also supported the Princess of Wales in a sweet Instagram post that included a throwback photo of them together.
"Over the years, we have climbed many mountains together. As a family, we will climb this one with you too," he wrote.
Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, also took to X to share his reaction to Kate's health update.
"My thoughts are with the Princess of Wales, Prince of Wales, the Royal Family and in particular her three children at this difficult time," he wrote. "The Princess of Wales has the love and support of the whole country as she continues her recovery. She has shown tremendous bravery with her statement today."
"In recent weeks, she has been subjected to intense scrutiny and has been unfairly treated by certain sections of the media around the world and on social media. When it comes to matters of health, like everyone else, she must be afforded the privacy to focus on her treatment and be with her loving family," he continued, pointing to speculation and conspiracy theories about her health and whereabouts circulating online.
Sunak continued, "I know I speak for the whole country in wishing her a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back in action when she's ready."
