May 4th

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D is classic video gaming: a lot of flying around in cool vehicles and firing lasers to take down your enemies. You get to drive X-wings, Y-wings, A-wings, and even snowspeeders while you fight everything the empire has to throw at you.

Super Sidekicks

This is an oldie-but-goodie first published by SNK in 1992. You can play as any of 12 different teams from real countries as you compete for the SNK Cup. It's a top-down, game with gorgeous two-dimensional sprites, and it's a fun way to pass a few hours. If you're too young to remember this one, it was immensely popular in arcades — and now, thanks to the Amazon Games app, you can try it for yourself.

Samurai Shodown IV

If you're a fan of samurai-fighting action, then Samurai Shodown IV isn't one you want to pass up. it's a fighting game, but with slower, more deliberate combat than its contemporaries. This is the fourth entry in the franchise, but it adds some interesting elements; for example, a player can forfeit a fight in order to start the next round with a full POW gauge. More strategy comes into play, which elevates this from a simple button-masher to a game that requires some forethought.

Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition

No, this isn't a game about colons — although I can see why you might get that impression. Planescape: Torment is a tactical game set in the Dungeons and Dragons universe. You have to think about your party composition, survey the environment for advantages, and use every tool at your disposal if you hope to come out above all of the dangers that wait for you. You'll have more than 50 hours of narrative RPG goodness to wade through, so get ready.

Lake

A lot of the games on this list are kind of intense. Between fighters, shooters, and other competitive titles, you might need something more refreshing. Lake has the answer. This is a game about a career woman taking a step back from the rat race to go deliver mail in her laidback, idyllic hometown. There are great character interactions, relationship building, and choices to be made — but you'll come out feeling more relaxed than before.

Robo Army

Another SNK title first released on the Neo Geo, Robo Army is a brawler in the same vein as Double Dragon or Streets of Rage. Play as Maxima or Rocky and fight through six different levels to take down the evil Professor. Both characters have different abilities, and if playing with a friend, you can combine your powers a la Power Rangers to turn into an invulnerable vehicle for a short time. Sure, the game came out in 1991 — but it's a good time.

Last Resort

If you're craving some schmup action, here it is. Last Resort is a coop game where you fight with up to three friends to defend humanity's first Martian hotel against alien invaders. Yes, it's as ridiculous as it sounds — but it's also a lot of goofy fun for someone craving a bit of that old-school cooperative action.

May 18th

Kardboard Kings

If you're a fan of sim games, you want to miss this one. Kardboard Kings is a card-shop simulator, which puts you in control of a card shop with the goal of becoming the best one in town. I'm personally very excited for this one — I love card games, and running a shop sounds like fun too. And if you're tired of running the shop, you can play a few card games, too.

The Almost Gone

At first glance, you would think that The Almost Gone was a simple puzzle game, but it's actually a deep exploration of life, death, and mental health. It's a beautiful experience narrative that will make you think about your own mortality. Maybe I should include an existential crisis warning?

3 Count Bout

If you're a wrestling fan, then 3 Count Bout is a title you don't want to miss. You can play as one of ten fictional wrestlers to claim the championship title, and you can even use weapons in specific matches. Best of all, you can join up with a friend for two-on-two tag team battles. This is another SNK title from back in 1993, but it holds up well for several hours of fun.

Alpha Mission 2

The sequel to the original Alpha Mission, Alpha Mission 2 is a scrolling schump in the classic SNK style. It first released in 1991, but still holds up after all these years with the amount of fun and challenge it presents.

May 25th

Lila's Sky Ark

Lila's Sky Ark is an odd, somewhat haunting game set in a psychedelic world. Explore the world and solve the various mysteries to protect the world from the minions of the Conductor. It's a bit weird, but a somewhat timely game about the value of music and arts in the world.

Agatha Knife

If you're looking for something really weird and off the wall, Agatha Knife is the game for you. You take on the role of Agatha, a meat-loving carnivore who also has friendships with animals. She's torn: how can she reconcile eating meat when she loves critters? The answer is easy: start your own religion and convince animals to sacrifice themselves.

King of the Monsters 2

King of the Monsters 2 is both a brawler and wrestling game. Take the role of one of the three monsters that came out victorious in the first game and fight off an alien invasion that threatens Earth. If it feels a little familiar, it should — it was ported to both Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.

Kizuna Encounter

The final freebie of the monster, Kizuna Encounter: Super Tag Battle is a weapon-based fighting game from SNK. Who'd have guessed? This game wasn't the most popular when it first came out, although it was later ported to PlayStation 2 and re-released on PlayStation 4. Now is a great chance to experience it for the first time if you never have before.
