President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska congratulated Ukrainians on Vyshyvanka Day, a day celebrating traditional Ukrainian clothing, observed on May 16.

They shared their greetings on social media, emphasizing that the embroidered shirt is “a symbol of unity for all generations of Ukrainians.” They added that during the years of resistance to Russian aggression, the embroidered shirt “has become an informal uniform for all those who defend humanity, freedom, and the right to self-identity.”

“Visible or invisible, it is always under the pixel of a defender and under a rescuer's uniform, under a doctor's coat, a power engineer's jacket. It is on a volunteer, a teacher, on everyone who holds the line," they wrote.

They also noted that Ukrainian children recognize this shirt from childhood as a symbol of unity across generations.

"Its pattern is so unique because it is embroidered by our own deeds on a cloth woven with our values," they said, wishing a Happy Vyshyvanka Day to Ukraine, Ukrainians, and friends of Ukraine.
