The Predator is on the hunt again.

As it turns out, Disney+ Day was not limited to strictly Disney+ titles. On display were several projects that will be airing on Hulu in the United States (and on Star overseas), including the highly anticipated latest chapter in the “Predator” franchise – this one is a prequel/reboot dubbed “Prey.”

The official logline for the new projects reads: “Set in the world of the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, the action-thriller follows Naru, the skilled warrior who fiercely protects her tribe against a highly evolved alien predator.” A first-look image and logo were also revealed.

In 1987 the “Predator” franchise launched with the original film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as the leader of a special ops force in the South American jungle that come face-to-face with a bloodthirsty alien warrior. Directed by John McTiernan a year before he made “Die Hard,” the film was an inventive, tongue-in-cheek adventure that introduced the world to one of the most iconic monster designs in cinema history (by the late, great Stan Winston).

“Predator 2” followed in 1990, swapping the jungle setting for an urban landscape (Danny Glover was the lead this time), with the underrated, Robert Rodriguez-produced “Predators” in 2010. In 2018, the franchise attempted a rejuvenation with “The Predator,” co-written and directed by “Iron Man 3” filmmaker Shane Black (who had appeared as an actor in the original film). But it wound up underperforming at the box office.

But you can’t keep a good alien monster down, especially with a streaming platform that is in dire need of content.

Dan Trachtenberg, who directed the surprise hit “10 Cloverfield Lane,” directs “Prey.” Everything that we’ve heard about the project, from their take on the iconic movie monster, to the vibe of what Trachtenberg and his collaborators are going for, has left us very excited.

“Prey” will be released on Hulu in the summer of 2022. Check out the first-look image below.
