A powerful winter storm freezes a U.S. flag

STORY: The homeowner said that when he went outside to take the flag down, he found it had frozen and his attempt to move it made a loud, crackling noise.

The storm knocked out power to more than 900,000 people across the country and sent wind chills equivalent to minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 40 Celsius) possible throughout the day, the National Weather Service said.
